You’ve solved some of the
symptoms of what was wrong with
the world, but you haven’t
fixed
the underlying problems.
You set
out to dismantle the Jerk
Factory,
but all you did was set up
a bunch
of Jerk Traps. You set out
to
reform the culture, but
you created
a culture of fear.
You became the problem.
You
turned into the very thing
you’re
trying to prevent. You
prevented
war by waging war. You
prevented
poverty by taking from
those with
abundance. You made such
heavyhanded
laws to prevent crime
that the laws themselves
became
crimes against your
people. You
couldn’t allow freedom,
because
freedom begets the
problems
you’re trying to solve.
And you
certainly failed to put an
end to
hate, because your people
not only
still hate each other,
they now also
hate you.
How do you maintain world
peace? How do you maintain
ethical business
practices? How do
you maintain any social
system?
By control.
But you can’t fix the world
by
controlling it.
The problem runs deeper
than
social systems. But where
else
could it be?
Wish #3
Wish #1 was “Get rid of
all the
jerks.” That failed. Wish
#2 was
“Make me world dictator.”
That
failed, too. You still
have Wish #3
- what are you going to
wish for
now?
We’ll tell you what we
would wish
for. But first, we’ll need
to look at
something invisible.
The problem with the world
wasn’t with the people
themselves,
and it wasn’t with the
culture or
social systems. So what
does that
leave? Nothing? Or maybe
an
invisible something...
